Diving — scoring, boards & the road to LA28
Education Margdarshan's diving map in simple words: the springboard and platform events, how judges score a dive and how difficulty multiplies it, how many dives men and women make, how LA28 places are won, and the Railways and CRPF jobs that recruit divers.
How a dive is scored
Judges' award scale (World Aquatics) [1]
| Dive | Points |
|---|---|
| Excellent | 10 |
| Very good | 8.5 – 9.5 |
| Good | 7.0 – 8.0 |
| Satisfactory | 5.0 – 6.5 |
| Deficient | 2.5 – 4.5 |
| Very deficient | 0.5 – 2.0 |
| Completely failed | 0 |
- With 7 judges, the 2 highest and 2 lowest awards are cancelled; the rest are added and multiplied by the dive's degree of difficulty (set by a formula for the number of somersaults, twists, position and entry).
- A dive done in a position clearly different from the one announced is scored as very deficient — the highest award is 2 points.
- Men make 6 dives, women 5, in individual and synchronised events; in synchro the first two rounds use a fixed difficulty of 2.0.
- In senior World Aquatics events, platform dives are only from the 10 m platform. The Olympics have 3 m springboard and 10 m platform; the World Championships add 1 m springboard and mixed events. [1]

| Rule | What it says |
|---|---|

- Under the anti-doping code you must be available for testing and check every medicine against the Prohibited List; apply to NADA for a TUE if you need a banned medicine. [6]

Where divers train
- SAI lists the Dr SPM Swimming Pool Complex, Delhi as an NCOE for swimming. Divers need a pool with springboards and a 10 m tower. [7]
Low kit cost — and who pays
- Diving needs little personal kit (swimwear), but access to a diving pool and coach is essential. Education Margdarshan does not print fees — no governing body publishes them. [7]
Who pays [7][8]
| Stage | Paid by | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| SAI centre trainee | Sports Authority of India | Coaching, boarding, sports science, diet |
| Khelo India athlete | Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports | ₹6.28 lakh a year incl. ₹1.20 lakh cash |
| Olympic prospect | TOPS Core Group | ₹50,000 a month + approved training plan |
