01 Overview & official source

What GCAS does

Through GCAS, a student fills one online form, chooses university–college–programme–main subject preferences in order, and uploads documents. Universities and colleges prepare their merit lists and send offers to the student's dashboard on the portal. [1]

  • One application can carry preferences for many universities, colleges and programmes, but a student can hold admission in only one.
  • Programmes admitted through ACPC, ACPDC, ACMPC or another counselling body are not applied for through GCAS.
  • Choose “Under Graduate (Regular)” for regular or integrated programmes, and “Under Graduate (for BAOU)” for distance programmes of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Open University. [1]
02 Eligibility

Who can apply

  • Students who have passed Class 12 and want undergraduate admission in a GCAS-linked university's college or department.
  • Programme eligibility rules are set by each university and college and shown on their websites and the portal — read them before choosing preferences, and keep your Class 12 percentage in mind.
  • Students whose mark sheet shows only grades must upload a conversion certificate from the board or university showing marks or percentage, as one document with the mark sheet. [1]

GCAS does not set an age limit or a common cut-off; each university applies its own eligibility, merit and tie-breaker rules. [1]

The registration fee is not refundable, and the category chosen at registration cannot be changed later. College tuition fees are paid to the college as per its rules; refunds on cancellation follow the university or college rules. [1]

05 Merit, cut-offs & reservation

How merit is decided

  • Each university, college or department makes its own merit list using its eligibility, merit and tie-breaker rules, then makes offers through GCAS.
  • The portal's “Know Your College” tab and AI assistant show college information and cut-offs.
  • The category you register with (Unreserved, SC, ST, SEBC, EWS) decides the fee and the category in which you are considered; it is locked after registration. [1]
06 Document checklist

What to upload, and what to carry

  • Class 12 mark sheet (with a marks / percentage conversion certificate if it shows only grades).
  • Category certificate if you register as SC, ST, SEBC or EWS; disability certificate for PwBD.
  • Your own mobile number and e-mail ID — OTP and offers come to them.
  • All originals at the time of reporting to the college, for verification there.
  • False information or documents lead to loss of admission; the responsibility is the student's. [1]
07 After admission
