Overview

What is SSC GD Constable?

The SSC GD Constable exam is conducted by the SSC, with the physical tests run by the CAPFs. Vacancies are typically in the tens of thousands each cycle and are allotted state-wise and force-wise, with separate vacancies for men and women.

Selected candidates become Constable (General Duty) in BSF, CISF, CRPF, ITBP, SSB or SSF, Rifleman (GD) in Assam Rifles, or Sepoy in the Narcotics Control Bureau. The job involves border guarding, internal security, counter-insurgency, disaster response and protection of vital installations.

Fit check

Who should choose SSC GD Constable

A good fit if you...

  • Have passed Class 10 and want a secure uniformed government job early in life.
  • Are physically fit and willing to train hard for running and physical standards.
  • Are comfortable with postings at borders, remote areas and difficult terrain.

Think twice if you...

  • Want a desk job in your home town — CAPF postings rotate across the country.
  • Do not meet the height and chest standards for your category and region.
  • Prefer a career that needs a degree-level qualification and offers officer entry from day one.

What gives you an edge

Any stream

Only Class 10 is required, so stream does not matter.

NCC certificate holders

Get bonus marks — 5% for 'C', 3% for 'B' and 2% for 'A' certificate (as per recent notifications).

Commerce

If you're from Commerce

  1. Arithmetic comes naturally — use the saved time for General Knowledge (GK) and reasoning.
  2. Practise computer basics (MS Word, Excel, internet) where the exam includes them.
  3. Train for running and jumps in parallel with study.
Science

If you're from Science

  1. General science and maths are easy marks for you.
