Diving — Step-by-Step Roadmap

Governed by World Aquatics · Swimming Federation of India (SFI) ·Last checked 17 Oct 2026

The whole Diving journey, 0 to 100, in order: the four stages from a local club to the international level, who can start, the detailed route with trials and selection rules, what is open at every age, where to train, who pays, and the jobs and money after. Every step is taken from the same official sources as the main Diving guide.

01 Four stages, in order

Zero to podium — the four stages

  1. Stage 1 · 12–13 Grassroots & local entry

Learn safe entries at a diving pool, then springboard, then platform; World Aquatics age groups start at Group C (12–13). [1][7]

  2. Stage 2 · 14–18 State to national breakthrough

Junior National Aquatics (Diving) Championship — Railways count it as the junior national. [10][1]

  3. Stage 3 · Senior National camp & elite trials

SAI's swimming NCOE (Dr SPM pool, Delhi) and STCs; senior nationals and the Asian Games pick World Aquatics teams. [7][4]

  4. Stage 4 · 14+ · LA28 International orbit

136 places: 2027 World Aquatics Championships (Budapest), continental competitions, then 2028 Diving World Cup stops; max 2 per individual event. [2][3]

Fuel, from stage 1: food first. Pair cereals with pulses about 3:1 — roti or rice with dal, chana or rajma; vegetarians add milk or curd, others eggs, fish or meat. ICMR-NIN says most athletes get enough protein from food and protein powders are unnecessary; NADA warns that no supplement is risk-free. [12][13]

02 Physical benchmarks & anti-doping

Age rule and anti-doping

  • LA28 divers must be born on or before 31 December 2014. World Aquatics counts age as at 31 December of the competition year. [2][1]
  • Under the anti-doping code you must be available for testing and check every medicine against the Prohibited List; apply to NADA for a TUE if you need a banned medicine. [6]

05 Training centres & cities

Where divers train

Low kit cost — and who pays

  • Diving needs little personal kit (swimwear), but access to a diving pool and coach is essential. Education Margdarshan does not print fees — no governing body publishes them. [7]
