National Sports University, Imphal — undergraduate (2026-27) [10]
| Course | Who can apply | Seats |

| B.P.E.S. (Physical Education and Sports, 3 years) | Class 12 with 50% (45% SC/ST) | 50 |

- LNIPE Gwalior (a central institute) — B.P.Ed. after Class 12 with 50% (45% SC/ST); maximum age 21 (relaxed 3 years for OBC-NCL, 5 for SC/ST). 200 seats at Gwalior, 100 at Guwahati.

- Next step: M.P.Ed. after a B.P.Ed. (or B.Sc. Health & Physical Education) with 50% marks. [11][12][13]
- M.Sc. Sports Coaching (NSNIS): graduation + a coaching diploma (or a 4-year B.Sc. Sports Coaching), then a written test on sports sciences and an interview at Patiala. [3]
Fitness trainer, sports scientist, nutritionist or psychologist
SAI NSNIS one-year PG Diplomas (written test 80 marks + interview 20) [4][5][6][7][8]
| PG Diploma | Who can apply (50% marks) | Seats |
|---|---|---|
| Strength & Conditioning | Any graduation | 50 |

- National Sports University also runs M.Sc. Sports Psychology (open to B.A. Psychology, B.P.Ed., B.P.E.S. and similar) and M.Sc. Applied Sports Nutrition (with an exit after one year as a PG Diploma). [10]
Sports doctor and physiotherapist
- Sports doctor: first become a doctor (MBBS through NEET-UG). Then SAI NSNIS runs a 2-year PG Diploma in Sports Medicine for MBBS doctors — 6 seats, admission through NEET-PG, affiliated to Baba Farid University of Health Sciences and recognised by the National Medical Commission.
- Trainees work in Government Medical College, Patiala and give medical cover at national camps and competitions. [9]
Sports management, journalism and broadcasting
Referee, umpire and sports lawyer
- Referees are recruited, trained and examined through the state associations of their sport, which must follow the national federation's structure. In football, AIFF set up this structure (in line with FIFA) so that refereeing becomes a real career. [15]
- Sports law is growing: the new National Sports Tribunal will hear sports disputes, and the National Sports Board will check federations on governance, money and ethics. The route is a law degree (LLB) first. [17]
Straight answers
I never played at a high level. Can I still become a coach?
The SAI coaching diploma needs a playing record (at least national level with a degree). NSU's B.Sc. Sports Coaching asks only for district or zonal school-level participation plus Class 12 with 50%, and B.P.Ed./B.P.E.S. courses lead to physical education teaching. [1][10][11]
Which stream should I take in Class 11 for a sports career?
For coaching, physical education or management any stream works — the courses above ask for Class 12 marks, not a stream. For sports medicine you need the doctor route (MBBS through NEET-UG), so take science with biology. [10][11][14][9]
