02 Eligibility & age limits

Degree, age and the MP-domicile rule

  • Qualification: a bachelor's degree from a university recognised under central or state law or the UGC Act. Those awaiting results may take the prelim but must pass before the mains application closes.
  • Age on 1 January 2026: 21 to 40 for non-uniformed posts; 21 to 33 for uniformed posts (police, excise, jail, transport).
  • Date of birth: as on the Class 10 (High School) marks sheet. [1]
  • 5 years more for MP's SC, ST, OBC, government / corporation employees, Nagar Sainik, persons with disabilities and women (non-uniformed posts); for uniformed posts the 5 years go to women (unreserved) and SC / ST / OBC men and women, employees and Nagar Sainik.
  • Ex-servicemen deduct their defence service from their age, up to 3 years beyond the limit.
  • Incentive relaxations (inter-caste marriage award couples, Vikram award winners): 5 years.
  • Cap: with all relaxations no one may be over 45 (38 for uniformed posts).
  • All reservation and age relaxation is only for MP domiciles; candidates of other states are treated as Unreserved. [1]

03 Exam scheme

Three stages

  • Prelim: objective OMR test (Paper I General Studies, Paper II General Aptitude) to short-list for the mains. Negative marking applies.
  • Mains: written, descriptive, to select for the different services and posts.
  • Interview and personality test.
  • Final merit adds written and interview marks; ties go to the higher written score, then the older candidate.
  • Provisional answer keys are published after the prelim; objections within 5 days cost ₹150 per question plus a ₹40 portal fee. [1]

The detailed exam plan and syllabus are published separately on mppsc.mp.gov.in; the advertisement itself does not print marks per paper, so none are shown here.

05 Reservation & certificates

The 87% / 13% result system

Because the OBC-reservation cases are pending, results are declared on the General Administration Department's letter of 29 September 2022: a main part with 87% of posts (calculated on 14% OBC) and a provisional part with 13% of posts. Candidates in the provisional part move through each stage provisionally and are finally selected only against the 13% posts held back for their category after the court's final decision. [1]

  • Reservation follows the MP Lok Seva (Reservation for SC, ST and OBC) Act 1994 and state orders on EWS.
  • Only MP domiciles get reservation; OBC creamy-layer candidates are treated as Unreserved and must give a non-creamy-layer declaration before the interview.
  • EWS and other reserved-category certificates must be issued by the competent authority and valid for 2025-26 on the last date of the form.
  • Horizontal reservation for women, persons with disabilities and ex-servicemen is adjusted within each vertical category; posts left vacant for women go to men of the same category, not carried forward. [1]
06 Document checklist

What to keep ready

  • Class 10 marks sheet (name, father's name, date of birth).
  • Degree, domicile, caste, non-creamy-layer and EWS certificates.
  • Disability, ex-servicemen, government-employee and incentive (inter-caste marriage, Vikram award) certificates, if claimed.
  • Self-attested copies are matched with originals at the interview. [1]
07 Salary

Pay scales and probation

Pay scales range from ₹9,300–34,800 + GP ₹3,600 (Naib Tehsildar, Excise SI, Block officers) to ₹15,600–39,100 + GP ₹5,400 (Deputy Collector, DSP and other Group-A posts), with dearness and other allowances as approved by the state. Selected candidates serve two years' probation. [1]

The advertisement prints pay scales, not in-hand salary.

08 Job profile & posting

From result to appointment

MPPSC sends the main and supplementary lists to the departments, which verify documents and issue appointments; service preferences given online at the mains stage decide which post a candidate gets in merit order. [1]
