Entrance exams

Gujarat entrance exams, explained

What each exam is for, who can take it, how it works and how you get selected.

GUJCET

Who can apply

Class 12 (science stream) from GSEB or an equivalent board, with the subject groups set for the course you want.

Pattern

A written multiple-choice test in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics or Biology, conducted by the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board.

How selection works

ACPC combines your GUJCET score with Class 12 marks in the relevant subjects to prepare the merit list.

Tip

Prepare the Gujarat Class 11 and 12 syllabus well, because the paper is based on it.

NEET-UG (for medical)

Who can apply

Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Biology, and the age and attempt rules of the National Medical Commission.

Pattern

A national multiple-choice exam conducted by the NTA.

How selection works

State quota seats are counselled by the Gujarat medical admission committee in addition to national counselling.

Tip

Keep domicile and school certificates ready.

JEE Main (for national institutes)

Who can apply

Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.

Pattern

A national computer-based test.

How selection works

Used for NITs and other national institutes; some Gujarat institutes also accept JEE Main.

Tip

Prepare for both GUJCET and JEE Main since the syllabi overlap.

Seats

Domicile rules and reservation quotas

State-quota seats typically need Class 12 (and often Class 10) from a Gujarat school; documents include the domicile or school-leaving certificate.

Scheduled Castes (SC)7%As per Gujarat government orders.
Scheduled Tribes (ST)15%As per Gujarat government orders.
Socially and Educationally Backward Classes (SEBC)27%Non-creamy-layer certificate required.

State quota highlights

  • Most state-quota seats in Gujarat government and grant-in-aid colleges go to candidates who passed Class 12 from Gujarat; seats outside the state quota follow the rules in the ACPC brochure.
  • Reservation for SC, ST, SEBC and EWS categories applies as per Gujarat government rules, and TFWS (tuition fee waiver) seats exist in many colleges.
  • Medical state-quota seats depend on domicile and the Class 12 / MBBS-eligibility rules published by the committee.
Admission process

State counselling portal: step by step

Authority: ACPC (engineering, pharmacy), ACPDC (diploma), ACPUGMEC (medical). Gujarat counselling for engineering and pharmacy is run on the ACPC portal; diploma counselling is run on the ACPDC portal; medical counselling is run by the Gujarat medical admission committee.

1Step

Check the dates: the state authority publishes a schedule for registration, document verification, choice filling and each round.

2Step

Register on the official counselling portal with your exam roll number, mobile number and email, and pay the registration fee if asked.

3Step

Upload or present documents: mark sheets, entrance score card, domicile, category and income certificates, photo ID and passport photographs.

4Step

Fill your college and course choices in order of preference. Add more choices than you think you need; the system allots the first available choice on your list.

5Step

Check the provisional allotment result when it is published, then accept it by paying the seat acceptance fee or reporting to the college as instructed.

6Step

Choose whether to freeze the seat or float for a better option in the next round, if the state allows it.

7Step

Report to the allotted college with original documents, pay the fees and complete admission before the last date, because a missed deadline can cancel your seat.

Medical route: NEET-UG score, then state counselling by ACPUGMEC alongside the national MCC counselling.

Diploma

Polytechnic and diploma options

Diploma admission in Gujarat is based on Class 10 marks through ACPDC, which runs online registration, document verification and choice filling. After a diploma, students can often take lateral entry into the second year of B.E. or B.Tech. Check the ACPDC brochure for the courses, colleges and seat details.
