Fit check

Who should choose SSC CHSL

A good fit if you...

  • Have passed Class 12 and want a central government job without waiting for graduation.
  • Can type reasonably fast or are willing to practise typing.
  • Want a stable office job with time to study further for Combined Graduate Level (CGL) or other exams.

Think twice if you...

  • Want high starting pay — Lower Division Clerk (LDC) starts at Level 2.
  • Dislike desk and computer work.
  • Are already a graduate aiming for Inspector-level posts — SSC CGL suits you better.

What gives you an edge

Any stream

Class 12 in any stream qualifies for most posts.

Science with Maths

Needed for DEO posts in the Office of the Comptroller & Auditor General.

Typing skills

English typing at 35 wpm or Hindi at 30 wpm is required for LDC/JSA.

Step-by-step plan for your background

Arts / Humanities

If you're from Arts

  1. Use your history, polity and geography reading as a head start for General Awareness.
  2. Start maths from Class 8–10 arithmetic, then move to algebra, geometry and trigonometry — one focused hour every day.
  3. Turn your reading habit into English marks: daily comprehension, vocabulary lists and error-spotting practice.
Commerce

If you're from Commerce

  1. Your arithmetic (percentage, profit and loss, interest) is already strong — extend it to algebra, geometry and trigonometry.
  2. Accountancy knowledge helps directly for Accountant, Auditor and AAO-type posts.
  3. Build General Awareness with a static General Knowledge (GK) notebook and 15 minutes of current affairs daily.
Science

If you're from Science

  1. Maths and reasoning are your strengths — work on speed with timed sectional tests.
  2. General science questions are easy marks; spend the saved time on English and history/polity GK.
  3. In mocks, learn to skip lengthy questions — over-solving is the common mistake for Science students.
