  • Identify psychological, emotional, or behavioral issues and diagnose disorders, using information obtained from interviews, tests, records, or reference materials.

    People and science

    Psychology, biology, statistics and writing.

    Bachelor's degree

    Psychology or a related field; get research experience.

Licensing

Licensed psychologist

Granted by state and provincial psychology boards. Most states require a license to provide psychology services or use the title 'psychologist'; supervised-hour and exam rules vary.

Not always required: Industrial-organizational psychologists and many research roles may not need a clinical license (BLS: I-O roles usually need a master's).
