Wind turbine technician: wind energy certificate, then employer training

Windtechs typically complete a postsecondary certificate in wind energy technology (or an associate degree) at a technical school or community college, then get employer or manufacturer training on their turbines. Certification in electrical safety, tower climbing and self-rescue is common but not mandatory.

For: Adventurous, mechanical people who are comfortable at great heights and in confined spaces.

Route 1: Wind energy certificate → employer training Typical

Many schools have onsite turbines; coursework covers electrical, hydraulic, braking and mechanical systems, programmable logic controls, tower climbing, rescue, first aid and CPR.
