Your journey, phase by phase

  1. Phase 1 · Class 10 Class 10 and eligibility Class 10 pass with Maths and Science is the standard requirement.
    • Most states ask for a Class 10 pass with Mathematics and Science; some accept a Class 12 pass or ITI route for lateral entry into the second year.
    • Minimum marks (often 35–50%) are set by the state technical education board.
    • Choose a branch by interest: fit with the work you imagine doing matters more than rank in a counselling list.
    • Computer diploma students benefit from comfort with Maths, drawing and practical work.

  2. Phase 2 · After Class 10 results Polytechnic admission cycle State polytechnic entrance tests or merit lists with counselling.
    • Register on your state’s Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) or polytechnic admission portal; applications usually open from May to June.
    • Some states use an entrance test (for example Delhi CET or state-specific tests); others admit purely on Class 10 marks.
    • Counselling rounds allot a branch and college by rank and choice; verify AICTE approval before choosing.
    • Confirm admission by paying the fee and submitting documents within the deadline.

  3. Phase 3 · Semester 1–2 Year 1: engineering foundations Maths, science, drawing and workshop basics.
    • Core papers: Engineering Mathematics, Physics, Programming in C, Digital Electronics and Computer Fundamentals.
    • You also take communication skills, computer basics and environmental studies.
    • Workshop and lab practice teach hand and machine skills from day one.
    • Internal tests, practical exams and a semester exam decide marks.

  4. Phase 4 · Semester 3–6 Year 2–3: branch subjects and projects Specialised papers, labs and a final project.
    • Year 2: Data Structures, Object-Oriented Programming, DBMS, Computer Organisation and Operating Systems.
    • Year 3: Computer Networks, Web Technology, Software Engineering, Mobile App Development, Cyber Security basics and a project.
    • A final-year project and presentation are required for the diploma.
    • Tools and software you should learn: Python, Java, SQL, HTML/CSS/JavaScript, Git and Linux.

  5. Phase 5 · Summer of Year 2 or 3 Industrial training and apprenticeship Industrial exposure is part of the curriculum.
    • Intern with a software company, IT services firm or hardware and networking vendor to apply coding and troubleshooting skills.
    • Apply for apprenticeships through the Apprenticeship India portal and the National Apprenticeship Training Scheme (NATS) for graduate and diploma apprentices.
    • A training certificate and logbook are usually submitted to the college.
    • Apprenticeship experience improves campus and government job chances.

  6. Phase 6 · After the diploma Jobs and upgrading your qualification Start work, appear for government exams or move to a degree.
    • Jobs and roles: junior programmer, web developer, hardware and network technician, tester and IT support executive.
    • Government jobs: Junior Engineer through SSC JE, RRB JE and state PSC/department recruitment.
    • After the diploma you can take lateral entry into B.Tech/B.E. CSE/IT (second year) or pursue BCA.
    • Short certification courses add skills that employers value.
